A Blast from the Past! Fast Attack Boats

Let’s rewind the clock. Let’s discuss The Album Game from Yaquinto Games. It is one of those wonderfully quirky early ’80s designs. It came packaged in their signature plastic “record album” case. If you know, you know.

This one has a special place in my gaming heart.

Picture this: early ’80s, local game store, probably fluorescent lights buzzing overhead. I walk in with no plan other than to look around. And what’s happening? A tournament for The Album Game. I had never played it. Had barely heard of it. But that’s never stopped me before.

So I jump in.

No grand strategy. No deep analysis. Just enthusiasm and maybe a little bit of “sure, why not?” energy. And somehow, by what can only be described as pure, unfiltered beginner’s luck…. I win the whole thing.

I still laugh thinking about it. I’m sure there were seasoned players there who actually understood what they were doing. Meanwhile, I’m over here making bold moves based on vibes. But a win is a win, and that sealed the deal. Instant nostalgia lock.

There was something cool about those Yaquinto album cases too. Sliding the game off the shelf like you were about to drop the needle on a vinyl record. It felt different. It felt special. And honestly? It still does. But….

Now here’s my plea to the gaming universe: can we get a refreshed edition? Keep the spirit. But give us updated graphics, crisp counters, and a clean modern layout, in a box. I would absolutely be first in line to grab it!
No hesitation.

Until then, I’ll hold onto the memories of that random Saturday. I’ll remember that unexpected tournament win. I’ll cherish the reminder that sometimes the best gaming stories start with, “I’ve never played this before… but why not?”

Hope you enjoyed this little blast from the past.
