Cardboard Commander Monthly Action Report - January

It was a busy month here at the Cardboard Commander. I have taken the full plunge back into the hobby and with that being said have been very active. Here is a breakdown of January when it comes to the Cardboard Commander Monthly Action Report.

Monthly Action Report

The Table Top Report In January I purchased a new gaming table that allowed me to set up games and leave them set up so that I could play them over days and even weeks. That was a game-changer. The first game I set up was an old favorite. Breakout Normandy is the game that started my love for area movement games and now I know why. I had the game set up for almost 10 days, playing a few impulses each day. Man, I love playing that game.

Breakout Normandy

Next up on the table was Normandy 44. I was playing a game on Vassal and decided to follow along with the live game. This was the first time playing Normandy 44 so it allowed me to grasp the rules easier having it set up and on the table. I love the ZOC Bond games and Normandy was not a disappointment.

I finished the month of January by playing RAF - The Battle of Britain. This has always been a favorite and it happened to be on my Shelf to Showdowns list for the year. I also included RAF on my War Room 10 listing the 10 games I would play for that challenge as well. I lost badly playing the Hardest Day Scenario. It was still a blast!

RAF - The battle of Britain

Not a bad month for games on the table. The Virtual Table Top I was a busy dude on Vassal during January. I logged 3 games of Advanced Squad Leader SK, losing 2 of 3. I played a ladder game for Combat Commander. Plus a couple more on the side. I was talked into trying out Fighting Formations and I loved it, so now I play in a ladder for that game as well. I am currently playing a game of Salerno 43 and Normandy 44 via PBEM. It has been crazy, but so much fun. I forgot how much I missed playing these games. The Great Purge! I started to look through my collection of games and decided to get rid of the games that I had never played or did not see myself playing in the future. I also found a lot of old General magazines along with multiple ASL annuals and Journals. I did not realize there was such a market for those items. I sent a list to Noble Knight Games and within 48 hours had several hundred of dollars in store credit. So what should I do with all of this credit, you might ask? Get more games of course. I am also looking at more games that might have to be taken care of in a future purge. Stay tuned! New Acquisitions I have added a few new games to the mix. I acquired Ardennes 44 from Noble Knight Games along with Fighting Formations - The Battle of Kharkov, Imperial Tide, and Western Front Ace. I will be doing a few unboxing here in the next few weeks. I also received Manila - The Savage Streets 1945 from Revolution Games and Take Aim Designs. I love Staingrad - Advance to The Volga so this was a must purchase. I got it for a great deal, buying it as a pre-order. I am currently doing a detailed playthrough of Manila, so make sure you drop by the Cardboard Commander YouTube channel for those videos. I have a few things on GMT Pre-00 that I am anxiously waiting for. Please Lord - Not Another YouTube Channel and Blog Yep, I did it. I took the plunge and have started a blog along with a YouTube channel. This is not new territory for me as I have two other blogs and Youtube channels for my businesses. I want to do the blog and YT channel to document some of my gameplay and to have a place to house my After Action Reports from the ladders that I take part in.

well... wasn't that exciting to see... I think monthly reports are great to help organize and to figure out exactly what you have done...
