Getting back into the swing of the Wargaming thing

I have been playing wargames for over 40+ years. I won't lie I have taken a few breaks, some longer than others, as life has seasons and some are more accepting of spending multiple hours of pushing cardboard around on a map.

The good news is I have more time now to set up and play some games. I thought that I would like to make a little website/blog to record my games and to give my thoughts on older games as well as the new generation of games. So thank you for stopping by.

On the Table

I used to play a ton of Advanced Squad Leader (ASL) back in the day. When I moved the last time, I decided to sell the entire collection. I have to say that I am fine with that. it had become a beast and was just taking up way too much space in my house for the amount of time I was playing the game. My ROI was way out of whack. I sold it for a good fair price and I know that he is enjoying it as much as I did at one time.

With that being said I have taken the little plunge and invested in the 4 modules and battle packs for the ASL Starter Kits. I love the system and want to keep it at this low counter rate. I have found a local to play with and have started to play on VASL. I have never played via this tool, so I have some learning to do. I am trying a PBEM game, so wish me luck.

ASL Scenario S1 - Retaking Vierville My first VASL game is this classic and we will see how things go. I am looking forward to playing the game, and I am sure I will catch onto the VASL thing quickly. Stay tuned for an AAR.

I am a huge fan of solitaire games and I have been obsessed with Stalingrad - Advance to the Volga 1942 from Revolution games. I have played it 4 times and it has been a wonderful experience each time. I have just started game #5 and have completed the first turn and it is the best outcome I have had in all my other games. I will be posting some AAR reports from this game real soon.

Combat Commander Ladder - Round #79 - Graveyard of the North Shores

Combat Commander has become my all-time favorite game. I love the way it plays out and I know some of you die-hard wargames hate the card interaction, but I feel that is one of the great things about the game. I never get tired of playing this game.

I have gotten back into the ladder after reaching out to Patrick, who runs the ladder. This will be my first game back on the ladder. I have the game scheduled for this Thursday and I will let you all know how that goes.

Want to learn more about the Ladder? Here is the main thread link on BGG The Discussion thread can be found here. Results are recorded here for the ladder.

Patricks oversees the Ladder and does a great job. He has a great YouTube channel for replays and training for Combat Commander so go check it out.

I will try and be consistent in writing and publishing this blog. Let me know your thoughts. Do you like ASLSK? Have you played Stalingrad, Advance to the Volga? do you like Combat Commander? If you are looking for a game, shoot me a note, and let's talk about it. I have around 100 titles and would like to play them.
