I have been trying to get in as many games as possible, so I have been throwing my name out in the CC:E discord board for opponents. Greg G and I connected and decided to play S33- We Go, where in the early hours of June 6th, the paratroops of the 101st and 82nd Airborne leaped into the night over Normandy to clear the path for the invading Allied forces.

One of the cool things about this scenario is the random airdrop of troops utilizing the random hex created from the American Fate Deck. This makes it so much fun with the fog of war. I was playing the Americans and the drops were not bad, we were scattered out but were able to regroup and start to battle fairly quickly.

It was a close game until late in the affair when Greg started to take control. My newbieness (is that a word?) again showed up late and led to some poor decisions. Greg was great to play with and was very patient. He was just what I needed to continue my learning path for this great game on VASSAL.

I have enjoyed my return to Combat Commander. I had forgotten how much fun the game can be. It can also be very frustrating. When you want to move, fire, or recover it seems that you can never draw the card that you desperately need. The die rolls, which seem to come at the best or worst of times, throw in the dreaded event results and the game is always a practice in chaos. The game is so much fun, and I am truly happy to be back in the fold of Combat Commander.
